Minister’s Order under the Education Act to vest control and charge over the administration of the affairs of the Peel District School Board in the Minister of Education
Signed Minister’s Order to take action and get Peel District School Board back on track and focused on student success
Minister’s Order
WHEREAS the Peel District School Board (the “Board”) was projecting an in-year deficit in the 2025-26 fiscal year, which would be the fifth consecutive year that the Board has incurred in-year deficits, and indicates financial mismanagement by the Board;
AND WHEREAS, to address the in-year deficit, the Board proposed measures to address its financial position which would immediately impact students in approximately 60 classes and would threaten student achievement and well-being;
AND WHEREAS, based on the foregoing, I am of the opinion that the Board, board members or director of education has done or omitted to do something, or is likely to do or omit to do something, that could affect matters of public interest, and that it is necessary to provisionally issue a vesting order in respect of the Board to avert an immediate threat to matters of public interest;
NOW THEREFORE, pursuant to subsection 230.3(4) of the Education Act, I am issuing a Minister’s Order under subsection 230.3(1) of the Act to vest control and charge over the administration of the affairs of the Board in the Minister of Education effective the date of this Order.
